Botox is safely used to cosmetically remove fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralysing muscles. Beyond aesthetic applications, Botox is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including eye squints, migraines and excess sweating. Botox is the product made by a bacterium called botulinum.

Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter released from nerve endings, causing the muscles to contract. An excessive release of this neurotransmitter causes muscles to over-contract or go into spasm. Injected directly into the affected muscles, botulinum blocks the release of acetylcholine and relaxes the spasm. When used in a very diluted dose, Botox can be safely used cosmetically to relax facial muscles, resulting in diminishing facial lines and wrinkles.
You will start by meeting with one of our experienced practitioners to discuss your medical history, determine your eligibility, discuss details of the actual treatment and schedule a treatment time.
After your initial consultation the consultant will ask you if you wish to go ahead with the treatment. The consultant will create a tailored Botox treatment plan suited for your individual needs and concerns. Once the skin has been thoroughly cleaned, small amounts of Botox will be administered directly into the muscle via multiple injections. Small raised bumps will be visible on the skin surface from the injections, these will soon settle by the time you leave the clinic. There might be a small bruise on the injection site. The effects of the medication begins to appear after 3-7 days and usually takes 14 days to see the complete result. A review will be scheduled for you to come back and see your consultant 2-4 weeks after your treatment to check the Botox has taken appropriate effect. The effects from Botox will last 3-6 months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time as the skin begins to recover.
With any injection there will be some discomfort, however the needle used is small, much like an acupuncture needle therefore most patients tolerate the injections very well.
Treatment takes 15 minutes to perform.
