Here at the clinic we are very often asked about chemical peels, as they receive a lot of media attention and can be highly effective in rejuvenating the skin.
As we get older dead skin cells that accumulate and block pores can make our skin appear dull and lifeless. This can be addressed with chemical peels, which can be a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of skin and can also be used to treat blemishes, scars and age spots. There are several types of peels and it is important to know which is best for you and your skin but two of our favourite peels are the Jan Marini Glycolic and the Obagi Blue Radiance peel.
Jan Marini Glycolic Peel
The alpha hydroxy acid glycolic peel from Jan Marini is derived from sugar cane and has the smallest molecular structure of the AHA family, as a result of which it can penetrate the skin more effectively than other AHA’s. It is particularly effective as the glycolic helps to reduce cell build up at the lower levels of skin leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth. Over time it can also help to reduce fines lines.
Unlike the more deeper peels, this treatment requires no down time, which means make up can be applied and normal activities can resume immediately. To ensure the best results from your course of peels, we recommend you prepare your skin by using the Jan Marini skin care management system or by using selected Jan Marni products containing resurfacing agents up to 2-4 weeks prior to your peel
Obagi Blue Radiance
Using salicylic, glycolic and lactic acid the Blue Radiance peel is a fantastic treatment to help improve acne, acne scarring and sun damage, as well as giving an instant glow and tighter, brighter looking skin. However, as the acid exfoliates the uppermost damaged skin layers, this peel does come with a little more downtime, with pinkness to the skin to be expected immediately after treatment and some mild flaking from day 3-6. It is also essential to keep your skin well hydrated using the Obagi hydrate moisturiser along with the SPF50 to protect your new skin!
Either peel can leave your skin fresh, renewed and radiant, so for more information about these or any treatments we offer, we warmly invite readers to pop in to the clinic to speak to one of our qualified skin care therapists.
